McLaren P14 picture leaked online six weeks before debut
Leaked pic shows striking new design of 650S successor; it will be officially revealed at the Geneva motor show in March
McLaren’s future Super Series model, which is referred to internally as P14 but is yet to be named, sports a completely new and much sharper front-end design. Its sides feature prominent aerodynamic bodywork, suggesting it’ll produce more downforce than its predecessor.
McLaren’s familiar side intakes have been ditched for smoother panels, and the car’s roofline is also quite different from that of the outgoing car, thanks to its new Monocage II structure.
No technical details for the upcoming model have been released as of yet, but its new carbonfibre structure was revealed in earlier pictures. The new frame uses dihedral doors and is said to offer improved access for passengers.
The P14 is expected to use a developed version of McLaren’s turbocharged V8 engine, with capacity likely increased from the 3.8-litres used in current models. This should see power up from the 675LT’s 666bhp and the new car’s 0-62mph time slipping under the 3sec mark. Top speed could also surpass 205mph.
Earlier spy pictures showed the car’s rear design more clearly. The wide taillight design of the 650S has been swapped for thinner light strips. The spotted test cars also featured twin-exit exhausts that poked out in the middle of the rear.
