Promoted: Why Peter Schreyer won the Sturmey Award at this year’s Autocar Awards
The man responsible for revitalising the look of Kia cars talks about the Stinger – his“dream project” – and the need to be excited by new cars
Autocar’s Sturmey Award salutes innovation and achievement in the motor industry.
This year’s winner is Peter Schreyer, President of Design at Kia. For Schreyer, car design is a passion. Famed for the Audi A2 and TT, this modest Bavarian has now lifted Kia’s products from neutral to easily recognisable. He describes the upcoming Stinger as a “dream project” and the realisation of a 35-year ambition to design a rear-wheel drive car. “It’s a car you wouldn’t expect from Kia, but it’s a car that only Kia could do.” Competitive, analytical and inventive, Schreyer says that “people need to be excited when they see a car for the first time.” Watch our video for more insights from this design titan.
