Jaguar XJR to break cover with 567bhp at Goodwood Festival of Speed

New high performance saloon will take to the hill with a supercharged V8

Jaguar will demonstrate its most powerful XJR super saloon at this week’s Goodwood Festival of Speed, before it is officially revealed later in the summer.

Despite only confirmation that an “XJ derivative” would be in attendance from Jaguar, the BMW M5 rival was spotted by Autocar’s photographers in the First Glance paddock wearing light blue camouflage with the number 575 on it.

This suggests that the car’s 5.0-litre supercharged V8 engine has been ramped up to F-Type R specification to produce 575PS, or 567bhp, and 502lb ft. The former is an increase of 25bhp on its predecessor.

This added grunt should ensure the 2017 super saloon can accelerate from 0-62mph in under 4.4sec and onto a top speed nudging 175mph.

Jaguar appears to have lightly adjusted the car’s exterior, with slightly more aggressive bumper designs and large diameter black wheels on the demonstration model.

When the car is officially revealed in the coming months, it’ll also go head to head with the Mercedes-AMG E 63 and upcoming M5, the latter of which is due in August with all-wheel drive for the first time.

Expect a starting price of more than £92,000 for the XJR – making it the most expensive of the aforementioned trio.

Jaguar will also run its most extreme saloon, the new XE SV Project 8, at Goodwood, as well as its I-Pace and I-Type Formula E car.
